Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

City officials said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.

An important representative said the incident made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
