Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
