The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his new release the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function small stages had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The donation supported locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges caused by floods, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

When the band earned the award in 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the act would give their prize money to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she divided her bounty between several good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

In recent years, the band donated their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients M People contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected several local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The first in the city and The Croft in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
